GFG Resources outlined Barrick’s proposed exploration program for its Pen Gold project southwest of Timmins, Ontario, in a November 2, 2026 release, with initial diamond drilling tentatively planned for the fourth quarter of 2027. GFG, traded as GFG on the TSX Venture Exchange, says Barrick is funding and operating the work. For you as a shareholder, the proposal supplies a sequence of exploration milestones while allowing GFG to focus its own capital on Goldarm.

What comes before diamond drilling? GFG’s November 2 program PDF proposes an airborne gravity survey in the final quarter of 2026, followed by approximately 240 base-of-till holes in the first quarter of 2027. Those holes are intended to refine gold anomalies and identify potential bedrock sources. Mapping and rock sampling would follow before targets advance to diamond drilling. The release describes an initial US$500,000 program in 2026 but gives no total budget for 2027. Scope and timing remain subject to confirmation, and permitting activities form part of the initial work.

The firm funding obligation comes from the earn-in terms GFG announced on August 25, 2026: at least C$4 million in qualifying expenditures within the first three years. That includes a minimum of 5,000 metres of diamond drilling before the agreement’s third anniversary. GFG says an early withdrawal would require Barrick to pay any shortfall against the spending commitment directly to GFG. After meeting that commitment, Barrick can discontinue the earn-in without receiving an interest in Pen. We can therefore distinguish the minimum spending obligation from the longer program Barrick may choose to pursue.

The same August announcement sets conditions for Barrick to earn an initial 60% interest. They include C$17.68 million in qualifying expenditures and C$1.2 million in aggregate cash payments. A technical report must also establish a resource of at least 1.5 million ounces of gold or gold equivalent, with the initial earn-in requirements met within six years. Those are conditions for earning ownership, and the resource threshold is a future requirement. Your upside is exploration financed by a partner; your trade-off is a smaller property interest if the earn-in succeeds. We would assess the rights attached to the spending, as we did in Codelco and BHP Sign Anillo Exploration Agreement.

GFG’s own financing remains a separate part of the investment case. Its October 23, 2026 closing announcement reported C$8.1 million in gross proceeds, with management describing its focus on Aljo and other Goldarm targets while Barrick advances Pen. Gross proceeds are not a current cash balance, and that release said the offering remained subject to final TSX Venture Exchange approval. For us, the proposed Pen timetable adds another exploration opportunity without turning partner spending into money available for GFG’s other properties.

We will watch for confirmation of the airborne survey by the end of 2026 and the proposed till program in the first quarter of 2027, ahead of the tentative diamond-drilling start.
