Chile's Comptroller General expects to deliver its audit of Codelco's 2025 production information within two months, agency head Dorothy Pérez told a congressional investigating committee on October 20, 2026, according to Reuters. Pérez said a preliminary report was about two weeks away; Codelco's responses would then need to be assessed before the final report. We have not reviewed a hearing transcript or the audit itself.

We now have an expected completion window beyond the shareholder meeting covered in Codelco Sets Meeting on Production Inconsistencies. The company's October 14 notice scheduled that meeting for November 5 to examine production inconsistencies, without promising completed audit findings. Pérez's estimate points to around December, with the company's responses still part of the process. If you own copper miners, that gives us a period in which to reassess the historical supply figures behind our investment case. It does not establish a firm public-release date.

The scope needs equal care. Reuters described the comptroller's work as examining production information for 2025. Codelco's separate October 6 investigation announcement concerned possible duplicate recording across divisions during 2024 and 2025. The company said the same material may have been counted by more than one division, and commissioned external work to establish the effects on consolidated production and inventories. We need the final findings to show which periods and totals are corrected before treating these reviews as interchangeable. Possible duplication remains an issue under investigation.

What would justify changing our supply view? Codelco's results published March 27, 2026 reported own production of 1,334,445 metric tonnes of fine copper for the previous year. That reported total gives us a baseline against which to measure any consolidated correction. We will want a reconciliation from divisional records to the corporate total, with inventory effects explained separately. Because the company's investigation spans both years, a revised growth comparison also needs the adjustments to each year. Today's timetable supplies none of those missing quantities.

For your copper holdings, a verified reduction in historical supply could support a tighter supply assessment, provided consumption and inventory estimates remain consistent. The International Copper Study Group's table, accessed October 20, distinguishes mine production from refined production and calculates its refined balance as refined output minus usage. We therefore cannot subtract a possible Codelco mine-production correction mechanically from the refined balance. Nor does correcting an old record establish a fresh interruption to deliveries. We would reassess the supply case when the audit quantifies its findings, then test any benefit to the shares you own against those producers' current output and selling prices.

We will watch the November 5 shareholder meeting, then the comptroller's expected completion window around December, for quantified corrections and a reconciliation of production with inventories.
