Bill MacLachlan gives his analyst opinion on Precision Drilling or Yellow Pages, Ace Aviation Holdings, and Nortel

William MacLachlan is Past Chairman and Director at Mawer Investment Management Ltd., which he joined in 1993.  He has managed the Mawer Canadian Money Market Fund, Mawer Canadian Equity Fund and the Mawer New Canada Fund.

Previously, he was a Partner at Bissett and Associates Investment Management Ltd. from 1990 to 1993.  In 1980, Mr. MacLachlan joined the Treasury Department of the Bank of Montreal, rising to be Chief Trader, Cash Markets for Canada from 1986 to 1990.  Prior to joining the Bank of Montreal in 1980, he was a stockbroker at McLeod Young Weir in Toronto, which he joined in 1977.

Mr. MacLachlan earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder with 31 years of investment experience.

Mr. MacLachlan is a Past President of the Calgary CFA Society and a Past Treasurer of the Alberta Region of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Conference.  He is a Senator of the Calgary Zoo and Past President of Aspen Family and Community Services.  He has also been a CFA exam grader at the University of Virginia for the CFA Institute.  Mr. MacLachlan is a member of the Rotary Club of Calgary South, a member of the Honourable Guard of the Museum of the Regiments, a volunteer Sergeant of the 78th Fraser Highlanders, and a committee member on the Haskayne School of Business Management Advisory Council.  He is also on the Board of Directors for the Epcor Centre for The Performing Arts and is Chairman of the Investment Committee for the United Church of Canada Foundation.

Mr. MacLachlan is a regular commentator on investment issues for CBC NewsWorld, CBC Radio, and BNN (Business News Network).  He has contributed to the National Post, The Globe and Mail, the Calgary Herald, and other media.  He has also written on ethical investing for the Institute of Corporate Directors and has been a speaker for the Canadian Investor Relations Institute and the Strategy Institute.
